Hersir – 9th to 10th Century Viking Sword - Stage Combat Version
Purpose-built for reenactors, stage performers, and HEMA/bohurt practitioners who require a tough, blunted blade, the Hersir Viking Sword combines historical styling with modern durability. The broad, fullered blade is tempered to a working hardness and sports Deepeeka’s improved distal taper—making cuts, binds, and recoveries feel lighter in hand without sacrificing edge thickness for safety. Steel guard and pommel, a comfortable wood core grip wrapped in stitched leather, and a secure peened tang complete this workhorse setup. A fitted wood scabbard bound in leather with a wood suspension loop is included.
The term Hersir refers to a local chieftain in the Viking Age. This sword follows 9th–10th-century Scandinavian forms commonly unearthed in the Birka barrows of Sweden. The distinctive latticework motif reproduced as blade etchings on this replica echoes a decoration recorded on a 1949 Birka find, capturing the character of period originals while providing the ruggedness required for modern combat demonstrations.
